With over 18 years of expertise in MBS trading, repo financing, hedging strategies, and liability structuring, Tom McHugh leads JVB’s Mortgage Trading and Financing Group as Managing Director. In this role, he oversees all aspects of Agency MBS, TBA, and Repo trading, while also structuring liabilities for JVB.

Before joining JVB, Mr. McHugh was Head of Repo Trading at Highland Financial Holdings Group, a $15 billion relative value fixed-income hedge fund. At Highland, he managed the firm’s extensive Agency MBS, investment-grade, subprime MBS, ABS, and CMBS funding books. His responsibilities included:
✔ Trading & structuring liabilities and repo
✔ Hedging interest rate risk using Eurodollar bundles and exchange-traded options
✔ Overseeing trade margining & counterparty exposure
✔ Coordinating trade settlements & cash management
✔ Maintaining broker-dealer trading & credit relationships
✔ Negotiating credit terms within trading agreements

Mr. McHugh began his career at Morgan Stanley & Co., where he worked as an analyst on the municipal bond trading desk in both New York and San Francisco. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration and Economics from Lycoming College.

With his deep expertise and strategic leadership, Mr. McHugh continues to drive JVB’s mortgage trading and financing initiatives, ensuring clients benefit from innovative solutions and market-leading execution.
